Telephone preference service

The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is an opt-out register on which UK consumers can list their preference not to receive unsolicited telephone calls from companies and organisations.

Consumers register on the Telephone Preference Service free of charge - companies and organisations have a legal obligation not to make unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls to persons registered on the Telephone Preference Service.

TPS

If you supply telesales and telemarketing lists you should only supply prospect data that has been screened against the Telephone Preference Service list. Likewise, if you buy such data you should ensure that it has been Telephone Preference Service screened.

It is a legal requirement that companies and organisations do not make unsolicited telephone calls to Telephone Preference Service registrants; this is backed up by The Privacy and Electronic (EC Directive) Regulations 2003. The legislation is enforced by the Information Commissioners Office who will take action against those in contravention of this act.

Aside from legal requirements, it makes good business sense to use only prospect data that has been screened against the Telephone Preference Service list. Unsolicited calls made to people registered on the Telephone Preference Service are not only a waste of time and money, but will leave the recipient with a negative view of the company calling.

TPS screening

We are an official Telephone Preference Service list cleanser and as such carry out telephone preference screening as part of a full data cleansing project, or on a standalone basis dependent on your specific needs.
