electoral register
The Electoral Register is the definitive list of persons registered to vote in the UK. Electoral Registers are compiled each year by local authorities and since 2003 there have been two versions of the Electoral Register:
- Full Electoral Register
- Edited Electoral Register
Prior to this it was possible for anyone to buy the full Electoral Register, however legislation was passed to allow voters the choice over who can purchase their details for commercial purposes – those not wishing to have their details held on the Electoral Register to be used for such activity, can opt out of the edited Electoral Register. It is not possible to opt out of the full Electoral Register which holds details of all electorates.
The only commercial organisations who hold the full Electoral Register are licensed Credit Reference Agencies; however, they can only use the full Electoral Register for credit referencing and for the prevention of financial crime.
Edited Electoral Register
We hold the edited Electoral Registers spanning 2003 – 2010; whilst people can choose to opt-out of edited Electoral Registers, they do collectively hold the vast majority of the electorate. Any shortfall on the edited Electoral Register is actively compensated with our proprietary dataset – Tracesmart Register.
Electoral Register Search
We have fully incorporated an Electoral Register search into our portfolio of datasets. Electoral Register information plays a key role in all of our core services, for example, personal information held in the Electoral Registers is essential to trace people. When engaging in activities such as asset reunification, debtor tracing and pension tracing, cross referencing details on the Electoral Register, with our other datasets, enables our clients to trace people quickly and efficiently.
